What does the Wolf symbolize in Red Riding Hood?

April 20, 2011 Leave a comment

Red Riding Hood is full of symbols, not the least of which is the Big Bad Wolf. To children, he may just be the sharp-toothed baddie, but in grown-up re-tellings of the classic fairy tale, the wolf symbolizes so much more. Hoogland has written a really interesting piece on the role of the wolf from a modern perspective. She takes into consideration the role of the predator, the environment and BC First Nations thought. Enjoy!
